Today is Thursday and I want comments on the progress that Venezuela and Chile have in terms of banning non-biodegradable plastic bags.

From the era of the industrial revolution, plastic bags were created and became essential in the day to day of humanity; but for an adult then, it was not thought about the growth of the population worldwide and the consequences that this material would bring.

Did you know that plastic bags are made according to their use of: low density polyethylene, linear polyethylene, high density polyethylene, polypropylene, non-biodegradable plastic polymer, all these petroleum derivatives, which we know is a non-renewable resource and very pollutant. The thickness of the bags can vary between 18 and 30 micrometers, according to Héctor Yi Durán

Some curious facts about plastic bags.

In Falcón state for 2012, the mayor of Carirubana municipality, promulgated a Municipal Ordinance for the prohibition of non-biodegradable plastic bags, where said ordinance provided sanctions to those who did not comply.

I could not tell you what happened with that municipal ordinance, whether it was fulfilled or not. But it was an initiative of the municipality.

Due to the high costs of plastic bags in the country, many businesses were forced not to distribute them to their customers for free, some sold them and others simply did not give them; this was a point in favor with respect to this matter, since, the use of these plastic bags that do not have a final treatment is diminished and likewise thousands of species of plant or animal life would be saved.

I know that Plaza's automercado has been using biodegradable bags for years, they are one of the shops that have been soaked with the help of the environment.

In Chile since last year has been studying enacting a law for the prohibition of plastic bags. On May 29, the Senate approved the bill that prohibits and progressively replaces the use of plastic bags in the country. An achievement for this South American country, since they are vanguard in environmental issues.

This project waits for a third approval to start eliminating these products from the stores. However, several companies have for some time taken other alternatives to eliminate the use of plastic bags. They have promoted the use of cloth bags.

The work is not easy, since you have to change the culture of many countries, you have to implement industries with high technology and which are very expensive, you must finance scientific projects to create efficient biodegradable bags; but it is not impossible, because if other countries did it why the South American countries do not.
