THE COARSE OF THE POLES - CONSEQUENCE OF ANIMAL EXTINCTION

At present it is very well known to all of us that the problem that attacks the planet, in terms of ecosystem and environment, is global warming. The increase in temperatures has been one of the agents that has accelerated the temperature of our planet, this has caused that in the poles an important alteration is generated in different sectors, directly affecting the animals that are in this area of the planet.

To understand the phenomenon of warming we must go to the origin of the problem, the greenhouse gases, such as methane, nitrous oxide and carbon dioxide, among others, when thrown into the atmosphere, these gases levitate and retain the heat, therefore this causes that the temperature increases progressively, this phenomenon has intensified in the last years, product of the use of the fossil materials, (hydrocarbons).

According to the different studies carried out, during the last few years, the temperature of the land has increased 0.74 ° C, a minimum amount but sufficient to cause a warming that melts the different glaciers of the world. For example, in the last 50 years, the zone of Antarctica has suffered an increase of 2.7 ° C in its ambient temperature, allowing the large layers to melt and raising the sea level, and therefore this causes the waters to begin to occupy firm ground.

Some of the most recent data on the melting are the following:

• Between 1979 and 2010, the area of sea ice in the Arctic, decreased two million square kilometers.

• Since the 1980s, the Smith Glacier, one of the largest blocks located in Antarctica, melts at an average of 2 kilometers per year.

• Greenland loses approximately 100 million tons of ice sheets per year, these data are obtained by studies conducted by NASA.

• The progressive increase of the sea level is of 60%, product of the melting of the poles, this is translated in about 15 centimentros of area that are lost.

Now the causes are raised, every cause brings with it a consecuenta, in such a way that we will talk about the main consequences. If the melting tendency of the poles continues, the water will rise in level, which would cause coastal settlers to move to a safer place, when they reach the surface, they will mix the water in the sea, which would cause floods, marine species, birds and mammals would also be affected, at present one of the animals that presents greater extinction, product of these problems is the polar bear, so that its extinction is very safe.

Possible solutions :

• Undoubtedly one of the many solutions would be that the competent authorities should be responsible for regulating the emissions of polluting gases.

• We as a society must contribute to the care of the environment from an educational point of view, based on values mainly.

• Environmental care campaigns are essential to create awareness among citizens.

• The collection of the waste, are funamentales since this would be the beginning of an improvement, for the care and theconseracion of the environment.
