A powerful quake rocked Japan’s Osaka city||| There is a possibility that strong aftershocks will occur over the next 3-4 days.
A powerful quake rocked Japan’s Osaka city on Monday 18, 2018, killing at least three and injuring some 100 others. Several roads developed cracks and pipes burst spewing water after the quake, which struck at the height of rush hour in this city of two million.
Hundreds of commuters were stranded as flights were disrupted and trains were halted, while tens of thousand were left without power. However, there was no large-scale destruction and no tsunami warning was issued. Among the casualties was a nine year old girl who was reportedly trapped by a collapsed wall following the 5.3 magnitude quake.
Public broadcaster NHK said and 80 year old man had also been killed by a collapsing wall and another man was trapped under a bookcase in his home.
Despite its relatively low magnitude, the quake caused quite a shake, registering a lower six on the Japanese experiential scale of up to seven meaning it is hard to stay standing.
The quake knocked over walls, broke windows and set off scattered building fires. It toppled book shelves in homes and scattered goods on shop floors.
There is a possibility that strong aftershocks will occur over the next 3-4 days.
Japan sits on the so called Pacific “Ring of fire” where a large proportion of the world’s earthquakes and volcanic eruptions are recorded.
Pray for Japan's people. @jessicanicklos
The quake struck the city during morning rush hours. And I saw houses, building and water pipes have been damaged.
Yes, many many damaged but this time people was saved. Thanks God.
Such destruction ... It is very a pity ...
