Iran-Iraq border earthquake: Twitterati unite in prayers for the victims

The US Geological Survey stated that the quake hit 30 km southwest of Halabja in Iraq's Kurdistan at around 9.20 pm. Pir Hossein Koolivand, Iran’s emergency services chief, said that it was difficult to send the rescue teams to the villages as the roads were cut off due to landslides.

An earthquake of 7.3 magnitude hit the mountainous Iran-Iraq border on November 12 and killed over 200 people, injuring hundred others. According to officials, it also triggered landslides that obstructed the rescue efforts. Some videos posted on social media revealed the magnitude of devastation caused by the earthquake. The footages show people fleeing a building in Sulaimaniyah, northern Iraq as windows shattered. According to the provincial deputy governor, at least 129 people died in Iran’s Kermanshah province on the Iraqi border.
