ACTIVITY

  1. Do you have relatives abroad? What was their life living outside the country?why do you
think they choose to live abroad than here in our country?
Yes, my aunt went abroad, not because she wanted to migrate there; but to work there to
    support the needs of her family. Her life there is okey, she was treated correctly by her boss;
and because of that; she sent enough amount of money for her family here in Philippines. For
her, her intention why she choose to go abroad is to work since, on that place in Saudi
caregivers are an in demand so she took that opportunity, lucky for her that she was in the
    hand of a kindhearted boss.

EXERCISE

  1. Identify the narrator of the story? Why did the author make him the narrator of the story?
For me, he tend to make himself a narrator in the story; maybe because he and Selmo one of
the character in the story came from the same place, and has the same life situation. Maybe
they also has the same characteristics and personality. So that is why he tries to make himself
    the narrator
  2. Give the meaning of Early Harvest
For me, the story entitled Early Harvest; because we all know lots of crops are being harvested
every day as the Japanese soldiers will come back to take all the crops being harvested by the
farmers. There will be some instances that the crops will be destroyed because of the heavy
rain and Japanese are confused where are the harvested crops, the reason why they become
violent and hurting some farmers; so what the farmers did is to harvest the crops as early as
possible so as to avoid being abused by the Japanese. But on that time when the heavy rain
strikes, the farmers are lucky because the Japanese soldiers did not appear. The story tells,
even we face difficulties and losing hope or when you feel like you could not handle every
strange situation; we have to remember that God never leave us , he will provide courage to
face any challenges that come along unto our lives.

ASSESSMENT

  1. Make a list of main event in the story
 Life was so different for Selmo when the Japanese came,  They all experience shooting in the town and cruelties of the Japanese.  Japanese kill people and took away their harvest and left them nothing.  They all have bad experiences since the Japanese came, they stop their studies, trauma
and bad dreams  People loses their hope because of what the Japanese did to them, bloods are messed
all around, many people died; and even their crops and harvest are taken by the
    Japanese.
So all in all, the main event in the story was the bad and a sorrowful experiences of Filipino
people on the time that the Japanese came here in our country. Life become harder, and as the
Japanese colonize us; it become more hard to handle. But with that people in the story did not
give up, for God give them courage and strengthen them to stand to win the battle.

REFLECTION

  1. Illustrate what do you think the main idea may have been.
For me, the story seems to be a sad, and inspirational; sad because of what the Japanese
soldier did to them, and that is to destroyed the life of our fellow Filipinos during that time.
Japanese did not only brought fears, but it is also accompanied with killings and stealing
farmers source of everyday life just like the crops to be harvested. They take up all the crops
from the farmers where which they work for. It is sad, because of the abuse and violent actions
of those invaders; but despite of what happened, farmers lift up with God, they are provided with positivity of mind; to stay strong and not to give up. This story become inspirational, that even on their saddest experiences from the hand of Japanese soldiers, they still decided to plant and so as to avoid being abused by the Japanese; they planned or replace the schedule of when will they harvest the crops so when it comes that the heavy rain departed to their place; they already have the harvest and it was not being ruined by the heavy rain, and with that the Japanese will never wonder where was the crops are, and they may never hurt by the soldiers. So they story also tell us that, to avoid strange situation, we must work on it as early as possible so that we will never be put in a situation wherein we become worried and hopeless because of doing a thing very late.
