IT Jobs
IT jobs. They supply access to systems and handle more complex tasks like ordering laptops. Sound familiar? Unfortunately, several front-line IT jobs match this description. As bots hit on the front lines of IT, it will be increasingly hard to justify spend on large IT support headcount.
IT teams aren't going that are likely to be automated are the ones that involve interacting with stakeholders, applying experience, and managing others. But that does not necessarily mean that you're out of a job if you don't manage a team.
Automation will remove the most mundane tasks, freeing IT to think more strategically. They eliminate or reassign jobs. So, how do you make sure yours isn't one of them? How can you evolve your skills to remain relevant, upwardly mobile, and employed?
A front-line service rep may soon be a commodity. A person that's intimately familiar with the company's processes, who has the confidence and support of a huge variety of business components, and who can navigate and advice on a changing and complex technology landscape is irreplaceable.
Developers and operations experts will still collaborate to build highly complex applications the marketplace requirements.
Low-interaction, lower-skill functions that handle data entry, ticket routing, and similar jobs will take the biggest hit, while talented people with diverse skill sets will become more valuable than ever. The AI introduction was the first key attack on IT teams. It shattered their role as procurement gatekeepers for each and every new technology buy, forcing them to find new ways to add value to the business.
Become valuable to a wide array of people throughout the business -- and not just by resetting passwords. To get there; immerse yourself within the different company teams you collaborate with. Live their lives and feel their pains. Buddy up with your own marketing, sales, and HR peers, work closely with their groups, and develop a reputation for delivering improvements and new ideas.Instead of fighting the inevitable, help usher in the age of intelligent processes, and search for ways to automate the tasks that you spend the most time on. The top IT jobs will go to people who learn how to collaborate with both technology and people. Humans are still better at negotiating SLAs and project budgets, and most significantly brainstorming big ideas that change the face of business. Machines will take over repetitive administrative tasks, freeing up our time for what we are best at. The new stars of IT will be the rare few who know how to speak languages, bringing humans, technology, and AI together for stronger collaborations with even better business results.
Work on developing skills which will be in high demand well into the future -- such as assessing an issue and figuring out the best way to use technology to resolve it. Learn how to bridge the gap between business and tech-speak, and interpret ideas into reality. In a nutshell, don't worry about the job you will be leaving behind: focus on the opportunity that automation brings, and increase your skill level to be prepared for it.
