Blockchain and Medical Records
So you’ve seen the news and seen the hype over Bitcoin and Ethereum and you’ve seen bit industry enemies such s Jamie Dimon actually be proponents of blockchain technology. Imagine a use case that may potentially be taboo: your medical records.
Today we’ll discuss a potentially new ledger technology known as DXchain and how this can revolutionize the medical records industry.
Believe or not most of your medical records sit on a cloud server, whereby doctors and nurses can access them on an ad hoc basis.
The issue with existing centralized solutions is that these servers are actually open to cyber security threats since these servers; even Amazon AWS are at a single central point and are a ripe target for hackers and exploiters.
Blockchain can fix this by decentralizing all of this. So imagine you have a code written on a piece of paper, instead of it being written down and stored in one place, the paper is ripped apart and spread all over different geographical regions and you hold the key to finding all of them. This is the premise of decentralization.
So pragmatically speaking the implementation of this actually isn’t that difficult either and codes such as DXchain are able to execute this to not only protect your privacy but also that can lower computation and storage costs, quite impressive?
That being said the most important part of medical records is the privacy within the storage and that’s the main focal point when it comes to distributed ledger technology and the medical field. Also it must be kept in mind since medical records are inherently valuable they must be protected from internal sources as well such as the medical staff.
IOT really accelerates data collection with electronic wearables and other means of getting new health data. One of the most popular is Fit Bit.
It doesn’t have to stop there, what about instruments that can track sleep, or track your heart beat such as Samsung phones or even devices that can track ketone levels, the possibilities are endless. Imagine a
world where we can take all this information and make use of it in real time. Imagine a world where we can predict a heart attack before it happens. This is all possible in the world of IOT.
This is all part of a bigger discussion; the real enemy is centralization, in every aspect. Oddly enough one for the reasons for poor diet in western societies is lobbying of big food companies in order to put cheap processed foods in our pantries, so while we are not addressing diet issues it’s a systemic issue of centralization that is inherent in any cluster of power.
Not only can we make use of this with medical records, but IOT is really the exciting part since we can achieve methods of bio hacking unimaginable. Imagine being able to function at 2-3x your current capacity because you found ways to optimize your sleep patterns. This is all posssible with IOT. But the core of everything is information storage and processing. Welcome to the world of DXchain.
