Dunkirk- could it happen today?
I watched Dunkirk, the movie, the other day. For those of you wich haven’t seen it or are familiar with the history. It takes place during the early stages of the WW2, when Nazi forces are pushing trough Europe and Allie forces are on retreat. Well into france, with Nazi army on one side and the English channel on the other, the allie soldiers had no-where to go. They were sitting ducks for the Lüftwaffe.
The plot of the movie, wich also happened in real life, is bringing the soldiers over the Channel before they are killed or captured by the Germans. To do so, many(!!!!) civilians with their boats are helping out. Filling up their boats with soldiers and risking their life doing so.
I was really moved by this «bring our boys home» spirit. And started to wonder about wheter or not this could have happened today. Would we risk our lives for others in that scale? Or would we sit comfortably in our chairs, safely at home?
What do you think?
Would you?
