RE: Idahoan Psalter: Psalm 16

in #dtube6 years ago

@barncat Do you ever sing hymns or other Christian songs? Do you ever read Bible commentaries or attend Bible studies or listen to sermons? Or do you condemn all these activities? I ask because what all of these things have in common is that they involve someone taking ideas from the Bible and putting them in their own words, which is the definition of "paraphrasing." It is true that whenever humans interpret the Bible, their interpretations are subject to human error, and so a paraphrase of Scripture should never be considered as authoritative as Scripture itself, but if Christians are ever to understand God's word, then they must read it and study it and interpret it, as they do when they prepare or participate in sermons, commentaries, hymns, and so forth. In presenting these songs, I have never tried to pass them off as inerrant scriptures or divine revelations, but on the contrary I have been careful to present them as my own paraphrase of the Psalms, which I acknowledge may be subject to occasional errors of interpretation. If you think that I have misinterpreted any portion of this psalm, I welcome your input as to what you think is the correct interpretation of the specific text in question. However, your generic and repeated objections to my paraphrasing of the Psalms are not helpful and come across as derogatory.
