Social Media Primer for Teenagers and Parents - 15 Minute Headsup I did a few years back!

in #dtube5 years ago (edited)

My daughter is getting older (and taller) and every year, we have numerous conversations about digital, mobility, chat applications, social media and more — it’s always a sensitive topic for many reasons and I know it’s a hard one for parents and teens to have.

we are more connected than ever before and so highlighting data flow to them at their age before they know about the world before they are ‘grown’ can be difficult, it’s hard to limit a teenagers fun but at some point you gotta wake them up to the real world around them!

So about two years ago I made a little course of ‘primers’ to open up the conversation for dialog between parents and teens about the social media apps out there that they use or other platforms that might be similar to some of the modern days ones today like tiktock etc.

It’s only 15 minutes long but I felt like I should put this up on youtube and on dtube so it’s out there in IPFS and centralised land instead of being behind the paywall of skillshare, I’ve actually got a whole series of videos that I’ve bonded all together into one long video.

I hope that you can glean some information from this video and more importantly open a dialog with your kids/teenagers about social media and the data unknown of the internet, it’s a valuable life skill and I’m sure you’ve been concerned about it and how to handle that conversation.

I think it’s extremely important to find the balance to their own privacy of data of their own digital accounts and to also make them aware of the world they are part of and how to balance and mitigate their interaction with it on their terms.

I’ll be pushing these all up on youtube and ipfs for a bit of extra google juice and hopefully it might inspire you to open that dialog up and discuss these often sensitive topics about data ownership and management.
