EXCLUSIVE DTube Video 120: The DOWNSIDES of Whale Upvotes
I know what you’re thinking: Downsides!? Are you crazy? What could possibly be bad about getting upvotes from Whales? Let me put it this way: Once you experience something, you can never un-experience it. In other words, everything is great as long as the whale upvotes are happening, but every so often they are NOT happening. Whenever they are not happening, I find my thoughts drifting to one (or several) of the following points:
- Anxiety
- Mood swings
- Depression
- Problems sleeping
- Self-doubt
- Possible financial trouble
I go into more details in regards to each of these points in the video. However, please don’t misunderstand. I am not saying that getting upvotes from one or more whales is not desirable or a positive experience. I am saying that once you get upvoted, you obviously want the same thing to happen again. The truth is this will be harder and harder to achieve, for several reasons that I have outlined in this post: https://steemit.com/dtube/@tanbay/psu67y0w At the time people did not take my warning seriously, however many things I have said in that video have already been confirmed with DTubes latest update. This left many of the top DTubers in the world probably feeling the same things that I mentioned in this post.
I also want to highlight the fact that I work a lot on controlling my thoughts through meditation and various other exercises to control my mind, and even with my years of training I am still effected by this. I also want to point out that this is not just specific to the steam blockchain and curation rewards.
What YouTube is currently doing with their secret algorithm updates is even worse and leaves many YouTubers depressed and feeling like they have possibly made a big mistake putting all their eggs in one basket.
I want to end this article by highlighting the fact that the good thing about blockchain technology is the fact that many things are transparent. So if you do get regular support from a whale and suddenly content is missed, it could simply be a case of voting power being restored or the person being away for a certain period of time.

Getting an upvote from a Whale became like finding a rare diamond :P
The most of them invested in Bid Bots and have no time to read content or upvote it. We have so many inactive users lately and thats a bit frustrating, but hopefully things will be better soon :)

The upvotes can definitely mess with your head man :D That's why I always say that your first why on here should be "creating content because you love to" and not because you want to earn money. If it happens to become your full time thing then great, but it shouldn't be your number one reason because the truth is that nobody owes us anything and we should be aware of that :)
