SPIN remote and Hue light. (Home automation series post #2)

in #dtube7 years ago (edited)

Here is a quick demo of me using my SPIN remote http://www.spinremote.com/ to set the dim level of my hue bulb in the living room.
This was very easy to set up, you will need :

  1. A Spin remote ( picked up mine in the kickstarter. They do appear to be selling them on the site now, but they are currently sold out)
  2. A hue Hub and a dimmable Hue bulb.

Setup in Spin remote App;

  1. Connect your hue hub to the spin remote app, by following the in app instructions
  2. Setup the actions you would like to use to interact withe your hue bulb, also in the spin remote app
    (this will require Bluetooth and WiFi to be switched on on the device you are running the spin remote app on.

I have it set up so when I turn the SPIN remote upside down it will turn the brightness up, or down, depending on the direction of "SPIN". But this is totally up to you
the SPIN has 3 rotation gestures, right way up, upside down and held at 90 degrees. It also has a touchpad underneath with a series of swipe, tap and long tap gestures. So there are a lot of options.

I now have a colour bulb, so I have it set to change the colour when rotated at 90 degrees and brightness when upside down.

I'm really pleased with how this turned out, and also use the SPIN remote to control my TV sources/channels and AMP volume.
