Disorientation (2011) - An Experimental 16mm Film

in #dtube7 years ago (edited)

Disorientation is an experimental short film designed to capture the feeling of... well, it's right there in the title: disorientation.

Don't be alarmed if you can't hear any sound. There isn't any. It's a completely silent film.

Disorientation is the second film I shot on actual film.

This was my second assignment when I was studying filmmaking at Ryerson University in Toronto, Ontario. Making this film I took a lot of crazy risks like colouring, scratching and cutting the film as well as slicing two shots together by haphazardly cutting them both down the middle.

I'll grant that this digital version wasn't created using the best available methods. I simply shot it with a camcorder while projecting it onto a wall. The best method would be to do a digital scan of the negative. But I'm poor, and film scans are expensive. You can read more about my methods here.

I hope you enjoy this little 1 minute short. I didn't enjoy making it! It was stressful. I was desperately trying to make something interesting out of the boring footage I shot. I think the results are pretty good.
