3 Year Old Ozark Food Forest & Permaculture Gardens
Come with us as we tour the summer gardens on our Ozark Permaculture homestead. We are in our 4th summer and focus on mainly perennial agriculture with a side of seed-saving annual beauty. See how abundant the earth can be!
Delicata squash
Gardens are beautiful this year. I focused on adding a few more flower varieties like the Taiyo sunflower, Persian carpet zinnia, calendula, multiple kinds of chamomile.. and we “took it easy” and grew a lot of potatoes, beans and other crops that don’t take a lot of tending.
In our third year many of the perennial fruit crops like boysenberries, black raspberries, goumi and goji are finally yielding sizable amounts of fruits- very happy about this! Still waiting on the fruit trees
Lots of basil, tulsi, lavender, chard, mints, St. John’s wort, anise hyssop, purslane and we did have a lot of cucs but they’re fazing out.
Love the gardens~my happy place

You have some amazing content, and im very jealous of your lifestyle haha
Thank you! We really appreciate it 😁
Wow, that’s an amazing garden with such a variety! Do the two of you do this all on your own? It’s gorgeous! The bees and butterflies seem to enjoy it :)
The boysenberry clip caught my eye... we collected berries on gravel roads a few weeks ago and I just assumed them to be wild blackberries, but the plants looked awfully similar to your boysenberries (I claim ignorance on this one, as I don’t know much about them)
Thanks for sharing your beautiful and bountiful garden!
Thank you❣️ We do tend it all on our own haha although in future years we are hoping to have some interns and such.
I don’t think the boysenberry would go wild. Perhaps a hybrid happened in nature! Did it have thorns? Very cool!

I got the DTube to play! Loved seeing the gardens and learning the varieties and why you selected them. Fascinated with the berry Ini spoke of, fruiting the first year.
Have you dug any of the sweet potatoes?
My first time growing them, I had lush foliage, nearly 3' high and taking over the garden. But when I dug them, I got very few. There had been HUGE tubers; I knew because the critters had left the shells.... I always wondered how the foliage looked so great, with all the damage under the ground.... That was the last attempt at growing sweet potatoes.
Yeah! Good. I think it may be better because now we can simply upload through YouTube and put a link in and t automatically goes to dtube!
Yes the primacane is an interesting development!
Haven’t dug any sweet potatoes this year, but in past years we’ve gotten great yields. One of the things that does the best in the heat typical of our summers.
Sorry to hear about your attempt! We love to eat the lush greens, too!

Lovely to see all that lush and beautiful growth on your homestead! Isn't it wonderful to finally start seeing the fruits of your labor? You seem to have an abundance of blackberries - is that because you are selling plants in your Homesteaders Coop or do they have a special place in food forest growing? Thanks for sharing! Always love seeing you with all the marvelous things you have happening on your homestead - such an inspiration! --- A community marketplace of ethical, handmade and sustainable products available for STEEM, SBD (and USD): https://homesteaderscoop.com follow: @homesteaderscoop
