Are You Not Entertained!?
After two years of watching bidbots destroy this platform it is nice to see things change. With hardfork 21 (&22) the /author/curation rewards changed which ultimately makes bidbots unprofitable for users and encourages manual curation. Prior to bidbots on steemit there was a ton of interaction, sure most of my posts might only make a few pennies but I would always get a ton of comments and interaction with other steemians including some orcas and whales.
This slowly changed as bidbots took over the platform, exchanging weighted votes for hard earned steem/sbd seemed to be the most profitable venture yet for whales/investors with un-used steem power laying around. The idea that a promotion of an article could also come with an ROI (return on investment) was insane! How could advertising shit posts make you money? Well, that is exactly what happened and the shit show that followed nearly destroyed the steem ecosystem.
No longer did the trending page mean anything. No longer did high rewarded post mean it was a good post or worth the read. No longer did reputation mean anything at all. I spent a year getting to 60 rep organically and some people would have that in a few weeks with just a couple of shit posts, thanks to bidbots.
So many issues surrounding them too. They were constantly ripping people off. If they didn't have enough people pay in to make it worth their wild they would just not do a vote until the next round, basically stealing your money and giving you back shit leftovers. That among 100 other ways to rip people off, it was all a scam.
The sad part is many top 20 witnesses were in on this and are sad to see them go. Its exactly like the politicians in our country, they should be representing the people (steemians) but they only represent the special interest aka their cash cow (bidbots). This is exactly why lobbying doesn't work, only the money matters, not the people.
So yeah, I am incredibly happy to see this change and giving up more of my author rewards seems well worth it to be honest! Hopefully we can get more organic interaction happening again on steemit, or at least more real posts get seen and rewarded instead of just the garbage that gets sent to the bots.....

I haven't logged into Steem for ages, and when I came back I saw all of this commotion about #newsteem.
I jetted over to the bidbot page only to see crickets!
They milked the system hard and it did serve a purpose, but for them, all good things do eventually come to an end.
I am sure these guys made crap tons of money for all the months that bidbots were cashing in. It was all automated too so they got to sit on their duffs and watch the dough roll in.
I do hope that steemit can rise out of the muck, it is a pretty cool platform. But so many things are too complicated for mainstream.
I took a break for a while too so I get that. But yeah, I agree with all your points for sure! Steem sure has gone thru the ringer, especially with the bidbots sucking the life out of it. Luckily that is finally changing with the rewards change.
However, I don't know if steemit itself will ever be able to be "fixed". It isn't steemit that will bring the masses, it will be the DApps that ride on top of the steem blockchain, DApps like @actifit, @dtube, @steemhunt, @splinterlands that will bring the masses and they will eventually make it so you never never have to even get on steemit, you will be able to control your wallet and answer messages and write posts in their DApp. Those DApps won't be nearly as confusing as steemit is, they will be user friendly and look professional as well.
According to the whitepaper Steemit was never meant to be the main website, it was more of proof of concept, showing that this idea to pay people for content was feasible. In the future the steemit front end might not even exist, we now have sites like esteem, partiko and steempeak that are much more user friendly and nice to look at... Those will be for the masses.. :0)
Yeah that is a good point the Dapps are where its at. I am looking forward to experimenting with the SMT model once that launches, which sounds like they are still actively developing.
Yeah, they have been developing SMTs for 2 over years now so don't hold your breath! LoL. I still remember that being all the rage when I got on the platform in Aug 2017... But at least they are actively working towards it now.
If it wasn't for amazing steemians we wouldn't even have Steem Engine or the version of SMTs that we are running right now because they got together and made this happen without steemit inc... And SE is what has breathed life back into the steem blockchain and steemit.
I am incredibly optimistic and excited for the future of steem, I just don't ever count on steemit.inc anymore because they are pro's at dropping the ball!
I started using bidbots, when my post has lower value the votes also has the lower value, when my post has a higher payout the votes also higher. If a 100% vote having value of 0.002 will be 0.001 for lowest payout and it will be 100% for the highest payout. I dont know how the payout curves are working in both.
Im still waiting for the reward curve to even out before I try to understand it more. But sending money to an upvote bot right now is not profitable for the user with the new reward curve so know that you will loose money if you use bidbots now.

Bidbots helped me from time to time. What I'm excited about now is double dipping with Smart Media Tokens. When I make post on Steemit with one major focus there are may new ways to earn money. And being able to stake a lot of your rewards are cool too. If you notice, Bitbot tokens like @tipu have a value on Steem engine. Who thinks that value will decline or increase?
I am also excited about the "double dipping" with tokenization on the steem platform. I have collected a good amount of other tokens but right now they seem to be pretty worthless, however, I am excited to see where they all go on the next bull run.... If it's anything like the last one it will be insane!
No, I didn't know bidbots like tipu had a token on SE, I honestly don't pay any attention to that kind of stuff because I don't use it.. I am sure if it is a respectable upvote bot than it will do well as a token :0)

Hell yeah, and it seems every day I am seeing more and more positive aspects of the rewards change.. As a content creator I thought it would be terrible, but as things even out I am realizing it is extremely beneficial, I just have to adjust the way I do things.. :0)
