As you know I'm a keen traveller and I love to embrace the local traditions and culture whilst travelling. I think its important to adapt and not try to change things to suit your needs or wants. What do you think?
We do adapt as much as we can, but we don't go full-on local, unless it's for a long time. It's harder on holidays where its easy to be a tourist. There are maybe a couple of times when we were in a remote area in Asia or Africa and we just had to adapt to the lifestyle, but then again it's only for a day or two... A week max before we find ourselves in our comfortable environment. We believe you have done a couple of weeks in Sri Lanka, where you fully immerse yourself in the local culture. That's brilliant. 😊
I travelled to Sri Lanka every year (for 8 years) for 3 months each time and mainly lived in the local village with a Sri Lankan family. I had to adapt to their customs and way of life. It was a great education for me and I loved it. I think its harder if it's for a shorter time and when on holiday people often want their creature comforts.
Thank you for your support and comments.
Well done for really immersing yourself in the local customs in Sri Lanka.
It is harder for a short period of time and when on a holiday, one does prefer to be in their comfort zone and relax as holidays are limited to the average working person. Unfortunately...
