My 8th #2020Vision Challenge: Mental Rook Lifting
I got back home around 11:30pm after teaching a private English literature class. We are reading through George Orwell's novel, Nineteen Eighty Four.
After the lesson we play a game of chess. When I get back home I put the game into the Lichess chess engine and make a screenshot video which I share with my student via YouTube to help us both attempt to learn from our mistakes and improve.
It occurred to me that I could dedicate the video to the #2020Vision challenge as an example of "mental heavy lifting"... Well, not such heavy lifting at our level of chess!
In this game my opponent was White and opened with 1.e4 and I responded with 1...d6 (the Pirc Defence).
The game developed well, I felt, but I was very lucky to get away with a blundering attack. My opponent felt threatened and did not notice how he could have undone me, so I kept the advantage and went on to win the game.
Thanks to @pixiepost for creating the #2020vision following the example of #actifit !!
All the best,
David Hurley

I used to have a chess set when I was a kid so my dad & I would play sometimes. However, I haven't played this game in years. So, I don't remember the rules well. Someday, I would like to try it again. :) This was an interesting way to demonstrate the mental wellness aspect of the #2020Vision challenge. It is important to exercise our minds as well as the physical aspect! :)
Thank you for always being a great part of the journey! You are truly awesome, sir!
