DTube Vlog: What We Made on Christmas Day! A bit Unusual but Oh Well...
Hello there, trust that you had a blast during Christmas! This was what we did during Christmas day.
There was a LOT of cooking going on in the kitchen on Christmas day as my Mom-in-law was also preparing her legendary spring roll or what we call 'popiah' at where we are. So, my sister, @littledrummerboy were working on the glutinous rice balls!!!
Glutinous rice balls are something we make during the Winter Solstice for the Chinese community which I thought of making them on Christmas day since we have the whole family coming over for the Christmas lunch. It is called 'tang yuen' which symbolizes reunion.
Many people cook it the sweet way with ginger and pandan leaves. However, my mum who is from the Chinese dialect, Guang Fu, taught us and cooks it the savory way since young. Hence, when my sister was about to come over for a visit, she requested if we could make this because she misses this. I have made it once for my family in law and this is the 2nd time I did it so I hope my sister has learnt to cook it with her friends next time perhaps.
We filled the rice dough with a piece of small sugar so it actually complements the savory soup really well. The savory soup is made of minced pork and egg, added with some spring onion. After the soup is cooked, then we poured in the rice balls and boil them until they float up to the surface.
I have to apologize for the end of the video because our family had come and we were all trying to take turn to use the kitchen. Finally, we managed to get it done and went out to greet the rest who had just arrived.
Christmas was a good time with family and I think it is meant for that. I love how we can come together for just a simple eating together and also to remember Jesus Who made all these possible, to have hope in the midst of many challenges in life!
