Good stuff! Don't give in to those cigarettes, I quit 15 years ago and it's one of the best things I ever did. As far as gold... I love it! I'm a gold prospector here in California so I have a lot of fun digging for it. But I don't think it has any intrinsic value on it's own. I see all value as subjective value. If no one wanted gold it would be worthless. Gold has value to people because it fulfills some type of need that they have. As to the historic origins of this valuation of gold, I don't know but I think we know very little about history and I agree that things like Egypt pose huge questions. I also find the theories about the Annunaki to be quite fascinating.
