What is the Brave Browser and the Basic Attention Token (BAT)?
I swear, if I see one more Tai Lopez ad…
Digital Advertising Sucks! This is the problem that Brendan Eich (founder of Javascript and Firefox) and his project Brave are trying to fix. Brave aims to create “blockchain based digital ads” that rewards users and publishers for viewing and creating content with the funds from advertisers. By cutting out the middle men, this project will allow for all parties to benefit by finding an equal middle ground.
But, I just wanna see this Forbes article!
Have you ever been looking up news and run into a paywall? Of course, you have! Big news publishers like the Washington Post, Forbes, and the New York Times have bills to pay and mouths to feed. It isn’t wrong for them to try to monetize their content. It is wrong, however, to force users to pay or turn off ad blockers. Especially when a webpage takes twice as long to load and has 11 ads for a knock off watch you will never buy. The Brave platform allows all parties to benefit by giving users freedom of choice whether or not to see ads, allowing publishers to dismantle pay walls, and empowering advertisers to reach a captive audience.
Sounds Too Good to be True
The Brave browser is truly revolutionary technology, and is one of the few Blockchain projects to solve a real-world problem. The best part is, the browser uses a proprietary cryptocurrency for payments. This is the basic attention token, traded under the symbol BAT.
BAT Coin Metrics:
At the time of writing this article, BAT is ranked #54 on coinmarketcap at $0.34 per token. This is only about a 2x price increase since it was first listed on the market, so there is plenty of room to grow. The total supply is 1.5 billion BAT, with 1 billion currently circulating. Of the 500 million that is not in circulation, 300 million of that is dedicated to the user growth pool or UGP.
Potential for Growth…
You may have seen some of the media coverage of Brave’s million dollar referral program; an initiative to grow the Brave publisher and user base. If you are unfamiliar, Brave gave out 30 BAT to anyone who downloaded the browser for about a week. While not all of these new users stayed on the platform, the initiative sparked a lot of media coverage and got a lot of YouTube creators like Phillip Defranco spreading the word to their fanbase.
Concluding Thoughts
BAT and Brave are something you should keep your eye on. This million dollar referral program is just the first of many initiatives the Brave project will be doing to promote new users to switch to the Brave browser. Additionally, Brave is working hard to get new advertisers to sign up to their platform. This will enable publishers and content creators to get paid for their work, and will enable users to get paid for allowing advertisements in their browser. It is a interesting and exciting project, let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
Looks like a good project you should try doing an introduceyourself post to get noticed on here will see tons of positive remarks especially if you added a video tags introduce introducemyself introduceyourself
Can I do an introduce myself if I am not new to the platform? Don't want to break the rules...
Yea you can usually for that tag your only suppose to use it once some people use it 2-3 times but people use the platform for months before making an introduction post
Also its decentralized there are no rules if people dont like what you post they will flag it so it cant be seen or explain why they dont like it and ask if you would take it down
This project looks really awesome and something I would definitely use to avoid aggressive ads on sites I visit. Thank you for the really detailed post about it and I will be sure to monitor the success of the Brave browser. Fantastic post!
Glad you liked it!
Nicely done...drove home the point quickly but got the message across. I honestly wasn't too sure what BAT was all about and hadn't heard of Brave. Advertising is definitely in store for a massive revolution. Between incentives, data collection, and targeted marketing, the game is about to change.
Love learning about tokens that I haven't dove in to yet. Following - Keep em' coming!
Wow, glad you liked it! Brief but educational is what I aim for!
Sounds like an interesting project! I'm in for anything that helps to ease off the Tai Lopez / Lambo / Hot Cheap Altcoin ad-mania. I also like how you wrote and structured your post, very well done @crypto-decoded and thank you for your work! I finally managed to write some posts of my own and since they cover a topic that might be of interest to you (cryptocurrency puzzles) I dare to promote them in a decent way. I'd be happy if you find the time to have a look and appreciate any feedback! Thanks - @sblue
Hey Josh, it sound quite solid. Not sure I am ready to ocmmit to another token just yet, but certainly one with great potential. Pleased to hear it is not a competitior of Steem.
