We Need to Talk About Search

in #dtube5 years ago

Why does no one seem to understand the bigger picture of search algorithm manipulation. This isn't about being able to work around search blacklists to find certain information, it's about how we are being steered toward a future where we will not have control over search results at all. We will ask our computer oracles a question and we will get one pre-approved answer. This is the nightmare future we are stumbling into, and (almost) no one seems to get it.

Use Presearch.org from the guy who sued Google in an FTC lawsuit Colin Pape. Support real people and get rewarded for your searches in PRE tokens.

Presearch is an awesome idea. There's even more to that story and it would be a good one to tell. Colin's other company is shopcity.com which is the origin of the lawsuit against google. Together they represent the beginnings of a incentive based model that puts local communities in charge of their searches as well as the data and information. I think it's an absolutely brilliant concept that they are working toward. They could use some love and attention.

There's more good news to come! Anarchapulco 24/7/365 is working on a collaboration effort on a few pilot projects in Mexico.

Should look into SoMee.Social partnered with steemit, its Steemit's Facebook cousin if you work with Jeff Berwick at Anarchapulco and tell him AK said hi. ;-)

That sounded really interesting to me, so I went there. When you do, you need to sign in or create an account. You can't use it, or even kick the tires, anonymously.

That's not meeting my needs. IMHO, the best thing about the internet is that people can interact, blow whistles, and speak forthrightly pseudonymously. A world in which we cannot be unidentified is a world in which we are utterly subject to institutional controls. It is a bit counterintuitive to folks that don't realize how institutions cooperate to control people, but it's not a new corral into which we are being herded.

Institutional racism provides an analogy, because race wasn't something that could be concealed when interacting with institutions 50 years ago. When you went into a bank to be denied a loan, or a sandwich shop to be told to go eat somewhere that accepts your kind, you couldn't larp as whitey. Today, if you vote for Trump, or support open borders, you can be unconnected to that aspect of your identity when shopping on Amazon, and it isn't the reason you are disconnected by your ISP, or charged higher prices for shipping.

Being unable to be anonymous is being subjected to the opinions of institutions, and enables the equivalent of institutional racism. Until Presearch allows anonymity, I won't be a user.

Actually that's for the reward part, all searches are anonymous.

I can't use it without signing up.

Ahhh! Some nice, light, and happy thoughts for the evening! Thanks James.

Anyway, yeah, very few people are aware of this, and talking about this. That's because it's the epitome of paranoia. It's true, in my opinion, but it's a concept only acceptable to the most awake of the awake. Not even intermediate-level conscious truthers (or whatever you want to call them) can handle the idea that thoughts themselves will soon be censored and manipulated.
I worked in psychiatry for years, and such a theory regularly got people committed, locked up, and medicated against their wishes. Nowadays we can speak of it openly, with just the occasional sneer or muttered "nutjob" from the general public. But yes, as you've noted, very few people are fully aware of the problem of thought control and mind manipulation. Astute of you to notice! ;P

Western Civilization gave us the Robber Barron paradigm. Every "good" captain of industry has to be hold a monopoly in their respective industry. Standard oil, JP Morgan and Carnegie Steel should come to mind.

The modern robber barron is continueing the same wicked tradition. Waltons and Bezos are examples. Google is selling the "correct" answers now. Anyone who pays can be disappeared on the internet or be the firsr page of results. Like boiling a frog, they will gradually whittle down results until only one will appear.
