IPFS-DTube-Install
Download go-IPFS for DTube: https://dtube.video/DTube_files/go-ipfs.zip
Extract go-IPFS into C:/.
Navigate to the go-IPFS folder and start config.bat.
Put in the amount of GB you're willing to seed to Dtube.
Done. Happy Days.
The more users that do this, the faster DTube works and the more decentralised it becomes. It is upon you now to shape a decentralised internet.

By adding IPFS to your computers and pinning files, you're actively making DTube decentralised. As you guys should know, every video is hosted on a main server and the gateways grab those video files from it. If you pin a file by upvoting, this will allow DTube to download from you and others who have pinned the same video file and reduce the centralization of that server. If enough people pin and support the network, the main server would essentially operate as a very reliable backup to be leveraged on, if the network needs it.
It's up to you guys now. The gateways need to have the files before you can watch the content. If it doesn't have it, it needs to download it from somewhere. The more sources the gateways can download from, the faster the gateways can give you the content. Help the network and we might see miracles performed.

I have been asking these questions for a couple of months.
I have TRIED to use Dtube, but I can't.
You give directions predicated on someone knowing what the mysterious GB is that I'm supposed to "seed".
I DON'T KNOW WHAT GB is!!!!!. I have SBD, I have Steem and I have SteemPower.
I have NO CLUE what IPFS is. This video above won't play for me of course...

GB means GigaBytes and is a unit of memory.
Good Morning @binda, thanks for that only, I know what a Giga Byte (GB) is in relation to memory.

I have GB's of memory on my computer. It is hard wired. IN MY COMPUTER.
Explain to me how I can "seed" or 'delegate' memory ON MY COMPUTER, to someone or something else?

How can I seed what is on my computer to Dtube? What does that mean? If it means turning over control of a subset of memory on this computer to some external entity, no thanks.
I'm thinking that the video hosting is done HERE on my computer, if so I sorta understand that, but I don't have a lot of spare RAM on this computer. I'm still trying to understand.

I'm not sure what you mean, if I got a .zip file, how would I have gotten it? Email? If I knew how I got the .zip file, it would help me to know where I may have put it.

Both articles give the same link, so that one isn't working either, the file should be called "go-ipfs.zip".

If you just want to use DTube, you don't need to install IPFS. There are simply problems with the video above. I cannot play that one either. Please try playing one of the top videos on the DTube-mainpage. It should work, without you having to do anything else. If you like, you can tell us whether it worked.
The only reason I wish to be able to use dTube is because there are videos I've made, of me playing music, that I don't want on YouTube.
I don't want to have to upload them there JUST so I can turn around and post them to Steemit.
I don't have time right NOW, to try anything, but when I get home I will come back and give it a try.

You don't need IPFS to watch DTube videos. Have you tried a different browser?

If you find it, let us know ;) I'd love to pin my own files onto one of my spare servers lol... seems like whatever I upload dies in a week... gotta keep the content alive for people who want to actually SEE stuff on Dtube.

in theory you shpuld be able to "pin" your dtubes using the hashkey like so:
ipfs pin add QmbVvsrL1q1nhmtUpKc5vzXUGaq4xeb3JsmYWp9MZUShGW
that's the hash key of one of my own d-tubes... so now my own computer is ready to seed that even after it disappears from the d-tube server... I hope ... it's all new to me. I plan to set up an old computer for IPFS web torrenting and to host my own wordpress site and I will try to make a tutorial to help others do likewise once I get it all working.
