I agree after buying different types of miners on Steem-engine. Though to be fair each of the miners here are sightly different in how they distribute and operate. Getting a miner at the very very beginning is usually nice and profitable to mine the tokens. But as more people setup their virtual miners, there is more competition for those mined tokens. Now I just curate and this is far more effective than the miners now.
At 50/50 is a wise choice to curate and bring more revenue to the table.
Understood & the recent hype of mining is indeed getting a lot some are indeed getting to it blindly . While I did bought some of the miners as well and some of them are working well and few you know what I mean. While yep the more users buy those the less the rewards would be. Besides it can be compared as gamble as well like you stated. Nevertheless we always have curating option or buying . Cheers buddy !!
I prefer the path of curating and produce contents. ;)
Mining is always risky if we don't have knowledge. And many people are doing this on steem-engine. I don't know if they are gonna make a profit or not.
Personally, I'm on your side. Only using few tags and that's all. :)
The most important is the risk you want to take and on this space, everyone will tell you to do your own research. ;)

It's interesting if steem is the main curruncy in steem-engine , or we can buy those tokens using bitcoin and others ?
It is seamless with the steem cryptocurrency but you can fund your Steem-Engine wallet with the following cryptocurrencies.
This is the biggest problem I think ! It should be made to make everybody use steem to buy tokens but not other crypto currencies, all those communities should buy steem and only after buy any tokens !

Tried a bit of crypto mining on my lap top but didn't get anything so gave it up
A laptop is to slow to mine and you need to buy more powerful equipment.
