I've had no trouble with D-tube but I use an anon. DNS. The fact that there's been content filtering on that level is quite concerning though, it's almost like a government sponsored DoS attack in some ways.
If you want clarity over whether Australia really exists try writing to any government department and ask them prove they are a legitimate government organisation and you'll find they can't because they are an illegal illegitimate entity that is unconstitutional.
The coat of arms in the opening of this vid is not the coat of arms for The Commonwealth of Australia, it's a corporate logo for an impostor that the Hawk government setup. Everything using the Kangaroo and Emu logo is in an illegitimate sham.
So if Australia still exists it only does so on a piece of paper.

As you've said VPN is the best way. There are other ways as well. These blocks can be circumvented by using a different DNS. The other way to avoid these blocks is to use something other than your Australian ISP's DNS servers.
You may use OpenDNS, Google, or CloudFlare's DNS settings.
The Australian Government, and Australian ISPs block their sites through primitive means, easily circumvented by changing your DNS settings.
VPN is the best way to go, of course, but you can change DNS settings, as well.

They only block the domain name perhaps but the content is still accessible somewhere else in the country.
Hopefully it's only temporary.
