my comment will be a little bit comical.
There's one film - "The Karate Kid Part III".
It's about one boy (Daniel) and his teacher (Mr. Miyagi).
Miyagi always said to Daniel something like "And you stay focused..." in spite of any failures.
So, at the end of the film Daniel was loosing the tournament, but at the end of his fight he was able to summon up his strength and won the tournament.
So yes, we always need to stay focused, so that we won't miss our opportunities.

well some of us are too focus on other things that we do not see what is going on around us while some gets it due to the situation of our life . Besides Daniel did won the fight I suppose by the hard way ;)
yes, he won his last fight by the very hard way. And your comment reminded me one useful idea - "Wherever you are, be there". It's from the book by Jim Rohn (motivational speaker..). Some people (and I myself sometimes) are too much focused sometimes on the past or future but present is going unnoticed.

As a matter of fact It is not only you buddy thatis going through the Past/future situation I believe most of us are but yeah at some point we should live by the present moment so that we could make our time worth it and live actually in that period. (Not Past not Future just Present)
