Slick advertising
Fighting words, forever empties—
echoes of inanities glimpsed
during childhood on meniscus TVs,
my eyes swelling insectoid.
Dimensions
of turmoil
kaleidoscope.
As I turn through time's thick layers,
back then, was color as bright?
Beyond the pale of memories groomed,
was blood so thick?
Was oil so viscous, water so smooth?
Was the moon so overbrimming,
a receptacle for love unrequited?
Did it paint my anguish
in its shaky mirror?
Photographic blur
of memories sensored
against the vaporous stars.
Pictorial clouds, funnels of discontent,
a billowing telescope edge expanding.
Poised in the humid chill and employed
by the intransigent instrument,
I was its lens and knob-twiddler.
Grainy bands of frequency
surge through my spine.
Grim talk shows, jesters,
soulful declarations of song,
patriots and imposters, half-timbred.
Ignorant oracles uttering bitcrushed prophecies,
yet so emphatically they stick with me, in me—
burrs on wool socks, glass shards in gristle.
I become their laserprinted quartz,
a tablet of burnished vinyl
framed behind slick-haired reporters
that speak the fighting words, forever empties
to the world's vacant theatre.

Wow!! This is slick @d-pend. It seems that the largest companies in the world are oil companies followed by car companies.
I have so many commercials stuck in my head from the 80s it is not funny. "I love what you do for me TOYOTA!"
Now youtube is filled with these "memories from the past" so I can go back and see the garbage dumped on me when I was a kid. To some degree they are classic and "raw" but a deeper look and there is a dark side of that box.
We would fight to change the channels until the knob fell off and then we had to use a butter knife inside the knob slot.
When I was in high school I remember news reports about the Exon oil spill in Alaska. I joined the ecology club then and wanted to do my best to make the world a better place.
Years later I found myself on a beach on the Yellow Sea cleaning up another oil spill. That's all I have to say about the idiot box.
I'm really glad for technology in allowing social networks to become interactive idiot boxes. This way instead of just sitting and staring we speak back and even have our own voice.
I took an interesting courses on adevertisiong and society, this poem is very powerful and captures a huge culture in the demise of culture and enviroment, been busy with many projects,Hopefuly I can organize my time better and make some for the classes, I think my firend should join he is a rapper and just joined steemit not long ago @grafficmusick

We do not understand the effect our words can have on others and the world itself. If we did we might choose them better.
A powerfully written and looking offering here:)
Once upon a time, there were seven sisters...
They all are bad, they all are slick
Wonderful piece of writing as usual and off course you actually inspired me to writer English poetry, before this 100 days challenge i was not ready to write in another language but now i am so confident because of this beautiful Challenge, that's is why i won the DAY 40s challenge.
Thank you so very much for the appreciation, my best wishes and prayers are always with you :) :)
This poetry is so captiveting, depicting nature in ite uniqueness, the images is so colorful and bright that it convey the message of the poem well. So heart broken, i wasnt able to listen to the sound of your music on dsound, but i believe consistency always have it way. The major business our country runs here is oil which is on the vast of going into extintion if care is not taken. I always find your work interesting, most especially poetry and that of 100days poetry you organized in steemschool. It is generous mind that could do such things.
Watching TV has become a habit of everyday society. A lot of entertainment that makes us reluctant to stop to watch TV, other than that knowledge and information are also widely obtained from watching TV. Without us knowing it had spent hours to watch the show on TV.
