Drosera Capensis - Insectivorous Plant

in #drosera5 years ago

It is a perennial insectivorous (carnivorous) plant that grows in the Cape in South Africa. It is commonly referred to as Cape Sundew. In our country, the genus in which this species is called “Sun Rose”. This plant species lives in an acidic soil and the soil it grows is very poor in terms of minerals. The plant meets this need from the insects it catches.

The plant remains green all year round and the roots of the plant are not developed. It consists of leaves attached to the stem. The leaves are divided into two parts as petioles and lamina. Leaf stem and lamina are approximately the same length.

While the underside of the lamina is flat, there are tentacles on the top that look like a knob to catch insects. A secretion containing enzymes is produced in these feelers. Insects are first slowed down with this sticky secretion.

As it moves, it becomes more and more secreted, and with the plant's tip closing slowly back, the side tentacles also close, allowing more insect to come on and bringing the end of the insect.
