A RESOLUTION FOR RESOLVING SOME OF OUR BIGGEST PROBLEMS

in #dropintheocean5 years ago (edited)

In writing on the topic of RESOLUTION, I found myself caught up in the mind-filled dreg of a myriad of possibilities.

The word is simply loaded with various different meanings that sent my mind into over-drive. Something that has always been a challenge for me. However, just setting myself to 'choosing' a single trajectory was a resolution in and of itself. I WILL DO THIS!

“Resolve, and thou art free.” ~ ― Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Flower-de-Luce, and the Masque of Pandora

Oh please, let this be true!

For starters, let's take a look at the word itself.....

Resolution in Writing

In writing, "resolution" has a particular meaning and duty. It is a necessary component of a plot in both poetry and prose. Ever read a really great book and find yourself at the end saying, "What?!" - That feeling of incompleteness and disappointment that the novel you just read lacked that finite value of completeness.

A good resolution to a story would rather leave a reader fulfilled having all the loose ends in the plot brought to heel with answers and completion instead of questions and confusion.

The resolution is also known as the denouement. The word comes from the French word, dénouement, which literally means 'to untie.'

Common meaning in the English language:

English Noun

  • A strong will, determination.
  • The state of being resolute .
  • A statement of intent, a vow
  • The act of discerning detail.

Related terms

  • resoluble
  • resolute
  • resolutely
  • resoluteness
  • resolvable
  • resolvent
  • resolve

Resolution vs Resolvedness

If you are like me, my mind kept interchanging resolution with resolve and I wondered if there was actually a difference between the two words.

As nouns the difference between resolution and resolve is that resolution is a strong will, determination while resolve is determination, will power. They are pretty similar!

Since resolve can be and is often used as a verb it is simply finding a solution to (a problem).

My problem? Finding something interesting to write about!

Something that I've been very passionate about for a couple decades is health and the environment. At some point I will share my health crisis journey in full detail, but suffice it to say, I had a rapid education in these areas in order to get well again. And once I committed myself to getting well and learning all I could about these areas, I made a resolution with myself to live a life that didn't add to the growing problem of toxicity in the world. That sounds easy enough, but it's actually not. We simply live in a very toxic world and choosing alternative, more natural options isn't always easy - especially twenty years ago.

Boring topic? This isn't going to be a scolding, I promise! I hope it actually inspires and gets your creative ideas going in the direction of possibilities and awareness so that we can all share in this resolution to think a little outside of the box regarding a problem we all know has to be resolved. And why not make that solution fun and rewarding at the same time?!

Honestly, trying to live without toxicity is likened to walking through a land mine these days - Despite the ever-increasing environmental and health regulations installed to limit this increasing problem. And it is a huge problem as disease is on the rise (in ourselves and animals) and our environment is a toxic soup. With the necessities of life compromised we're faced with our water severely polluted with chemicals, pathogens, bacteria; our soil ladened with molds and bacteria, chemicals and heavy metals that shouldn't be there; our air polluted; our oceans full of radiactive isotopes and petroleum industry byproducts, garbage and an ever-increasing change in its capacity to support life. As well, we can only sustain so much deforestation, landfills, cell phone towers and chemical storage ponds to accommodate manufacturing and commercial needs.

If you step back and observe nature (and our bodies), you realize that there is a balance that needs to exist in order for life to flourish. It is quite a genius chemical lab that is capable of producing everything needed to preserve itself and solve any problem that it faces. Sure, we could go down the path of replacing parts and artificially interfering in this natural balance (we've certainly reached a level in science to do this with genetic engineering, cloning - why would we bother with solving the issues when we can just change nature itself to adapt to this toxic soup? Patents are certainly profitable.) However, you just can't compete with nature's brilliance and its ability to heal itself. So, we could learn a lot more with nature and work with it instead of trying to change something that already works quite nicely. In my opinion, this is the path more congruent with success and addressing our biggest problems.

Two of the most exciting and inspirational problem-solvers I've found in recent years is Fungi and Hemp

FUNGI TO THE RESCUE!

I would also like to add some fascinating information on fungi that some of you might not be aware of.

Paul Stamets is the authority on all things 'fungi'. He is a visionary that has dedicated his life to studying all the amazing qualities of mushrooms. He claims they will save the world. They just may!

Here you will find Paul Stamets website - somewhere buried within it's pages is a lifetime of studies and work he's done.

Environmental applications (now being termed, 'Mycoremediation')

Radiation Cleanup - Used at the Chernobyl site as well other sites around the world.

So, the next time you're hiking in the woods, walking your dogs or find a cluster of mushrooms growing in your front yard, think of the amazing network of mycelium that is growing right under your feet attached to that great wonder of that single mushroom.

They might just be what we need to cleanup the toxic soup modern society has accumulated.

HEMP TO THE RESCUE!

I won't go into the full scope of hemp's applications, but this amazing plant not only has something amazing health benefits, but also economic and industrial and housing benefits.

The way we view hemp has come a long way in recent years, but there is still quite a stigma attached to it caused by its relation to cannabis. There is no psychoactive components to hemp. It is in the same family as cannabis but shares very different characteristics.

It might surprise people to learn that the US is the world’s largest consumer of hemp products, yet it is the only industrialized country that also outlaws its production.

Some of it's lesser known uses:

  • food
  • personal care products
  • textiles
  • paper
  • plastic
  • construction materials

This crop is capable of also bringing quite an economic benefit to those that farm it and utilize it in manufacturing in the billions. For countries that are hard hit by poverty and are struggling to feed their people, hemp could literally change all that fairly quickly as hemp is also a fast grower and doesn't require pesticides and intricate growing systems. It's quite resilient all on its own.

On a personal note, a few years ago we contracted a builder/designer to design a hemp house for us. His name is Anthony Brenner and his story alone convinced us that using hemp in building our home was essential. We fell in love with hempcrete. Anthony's story began with his daughter that had life-threatening environmental sensitivities and through this journey with his daughter, he found hemp to be the answer to relieving his daughter of seizures she had daily.

Benefits of hempcrete

  • Non-toxic
  • FIRE RESISTANT
  • No off-gassing
  • No solvents
  • Mold resistance
  • High vapor permeability
  • Humidity control
  • Durable
  • Sustainable
  • Carbon sequestration
  • Pest resistance
  • Passive self regulation of temperature and humidity
  • GREAT insulator
  • Negative carbon footprint
  • Healthy living environment
  • Inherently Airtight
  • High acoustic performance
  • EMF protection
  • Bio-fuels

And the super cool thing about building with hemp is that it lasts a long time (there are buildings in Europe made from hemp that are still standing after hundreds of years!) That's right, building with hemp is not a new concept.

Another emerging use is using hemp for super-capacitors! A capacitor is a device used to store electric charge on one or more pairs of conductors separated by an insulator.

Something that has caught my attention recently is that hemp buildings can be designed to protect against this onslaught of cell phone towers and the soon-to-be-rolled-out 5G and smart meters. If you've done your research on the effects of this technology then you know just how dangerous this is to people and animals, not to mention their flaw in overheating and starting massive fires.

THE RESOLUTION

We may live in a toxic world, but with a little shift in thinking and creative ideas along with utilizing some natural geniuses, we could turn this toxic world around and solve many of our existing problems.
