We are talking about systems that can learn and unlike humans, once a self-driving system learns something new, it won't make the same mistake again. Also unlike humans, when a self-driving system learns something, that knowledge can be transferred to all systems on that network instantaneously.

Think about that. Every self-driving car will not only improve its driving over time better than humans can, but each vehicle will be improving every other vehicle. That is exponential learning. As more self-driving vehicles take to the road, self-driving tech will improve exponentially.
