Long Bien Bridge-eyes century
More than 100 years ago, in September 1898, the Governor of Indochina started the bridge over the Mother River. The bridge was named Paul Doumer, but people in Hanoi still call Long Bien bridge or Cai bridge.
Long Bien was the second longest bridge in the world - the Eiffel tower of Hanoi - just behind the Brooklyn Bridge across the East River.
Long Bien Bridge is associated with the history of the two holy resistance of the nation, as well as witness the rise of the country since the unification. Long Bien Bridge is part of the capital city of Hanoi, so every event of national stature occurs in Hanoi are witnessed and joined the bridge. From the days the country was invaded until Independence happy freedom joy on of joyful Hanoi people.
More than 100 years have passed, the values of the past are still deposited on each span. The country changes, the capital changes but the symbolic value of the Long Bien bridge remains forever.
