Even low volume (low db/sound pressure) exposure over a long period of time will cause hearing damage. (Exhaust fans, engine noise, AC vibrations)
City people tend to have more hearing damage than rural people.
IMHO, musicians should insert ear plugs before the loudness starts to reduce your sense of being out of touch. My dynamic awareness is stronger this way.
I try to keep volume of things as low as I can. Ironically my hearing in my other ear is better than the average person. lol, so maybe if I was born without this defect I would have been the same in the other ear.
