What do you think is the most prevalent sin on the blockchain?

This is @steempope. Not to be confused for the current presiding Steem Pope. This is an alternative account operated by someone else.

The Steem Blockchain is filled with interesting characters. Where there is people, there is vice. Where there is vice, there is also goodness.

This will be part one of an open poll that will last for a month.

Of all the seven deadly sins, which ones do you think is the most prevalent in our nascent ecosystem? This is not about facts, but how YOU, as stakeholders or hobby crypto social media users, feel about everything.

Choose wisely.

Curious. What makes you think so?

Reward pool essentially is a stake-based consensus algorithms, where combination of upvotes/downvotes not only determines what gets seen in trending, but also determines rewards distribution.

There is widespread cultural hostility toward high-stake Steemians, yet distribution is trending toward decreased concentration, which means many smaller accounts are 'benefiting' at whale accounts expense.

If there is a widespread hostility toward whales that is NOT backed by data, then I consider envy to be the next best explanation. It could be argued that greed/envy are two sides of the same coin (I should have more / that person has too much and I don't like how they're using it because none of it trickles to me).

I agree and I am envious of your comment.
I will now give myself twelve, one percent flags as my penance. (jk)

Very common indeed.

While there is probably varying degrees of everything here, but not necessarily in the traditional sense, I believe the one that rules them all, and precedes them, is pride. Many of us come about this thinking about our own situations and what we want and need, and then maybe look at what the needs of others are.

I'm not saying that we shouldn't lookout for ourselves, we most certainly should, but we do have to take in consideration that there are many, many others on this platform, and that our actions, when multiplied into the thousands because others could be doing what we're doing, do affect others.

It is pride to think that it's not okay to do certain things when others do them, but quite okay when we do them because, by golly, we're doing them for the right reasons, and it's us. We would never abuse the system.

Or if we acknowledge we're abusing the system, we justify it by saying it's okay, the code allows. There are no rules but the code.

All true statements, but not very considerate about the needs of others or the long term health of the platform, which is critical to our critical financial well-being. Just because something can be done, doesn't mean it should be done.

And that, is an in-depth thought.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the dpoll. I think it was a very good question, and one well worth contemplating. A lot of what we see or perceive to be is just at the surface. Below it is generally where the truth lies, and I'm sort of into digging around for that. :)
