There are so many cryptocurrencies way better than Bitcoin. It just happens to be the most popular one and the one with the biggest market cap. But in terms of technology, community, and scalability, and all other factors, Bitcoin is trailing other cryptocurrencies. STEEM, for example, is just one of them.
