Dolphins catching fish on beach
The bottlenose dolphins of South Caroline, Georgia region are world renowned for their unique feeding behavior called stand feeding. The dolphins will chase a school of fish onto the mud flats and then beach themselves while snatching up fish. When they are finished, the dolphins slide back in to the water. Strand feeding has not been witnessed anywhere else in the world (Gretchen Freund)
The dolphins run the risk of getting stranded there, and it takes a good deal of cooperation to make it work.
Strand feeding takes place all year but it does seem more frequent when mullet are plentiful. September and October tend to be more active months.
