1. Oi Bigwigs! Use powered-down STEEM to create Sub-Steemit accounts, let's get this party!
DIVERSITY IS GOOD
Who doesn't love a good holiday story. The world is beautiful. Happy smiley people on crazy adventures in far-flung corners of the World. Fantastic pics of wonderful scenery. It brightens everyone's day. I think travel is a wonderful category.
However, now that every other post is either about "steem", "travel", "introduceyourself" it’s getting monotonous. As I prophesised two months ago, bloggers (and voters) will “covet big rigs” and “chase waterfalls”. However I didn’t know the bandwagon jumping would be so prevalent.
There are people on Steemit writing good posts about other subject matters however these aren't getting seen let alone rewarded. All eye-balls are on the look at for the same ol', same ol' whale bait. Anything else does not stand a chance if it cannot gain traction in the first couple of hours.
My proposal is a simple one.
STARTER FOR TEN
I think Steemit should create sub-Steemit categories/ tags that are championed by sub-Steemit account, e.g.
STEEMIT-photography
STEEMIT-funny
STEEMIT-sport
STEEMIT-news
STEEMIT-politics
STEEMIT-cryptocurrencies
STEEMIT-music
STEEMIT-film
STEEMIT-food
STEEMIT-hiddengems
STEEMIT-steem
And of course
- STEEMIT-travel
You get the idea...
These categories/ tags will effectively be the major sub-reddits of Steemit.
SUB-STEEMIT ACCOUNTS
For each of the sub-Steemit category there should be a sub-Steemit account whose role is to act as a Champion for the given sub-Steemit category. These accounts should be tasked with seeking out content within their category that is good quality or adds value to the platform.
These accounts should have a large amount of STEEM Power.
Steemit can do this by taking some of the STEEM collecting dust in the @steemit coffers and allocating them to the sub-Steemit accounts. Having ten or twenty accounts with 500k of STEEM Power each, whose role is to seek out the best content tagged within a given sub-Steemit category will work wonders for drawing a diverse and rich pool of content on the site. Right now adding content to Steemit feels like participanting in a lucky dip. Most content creators do not regard their work as a lottery ticket.
Sub-Steemit categories will give readers and curators a clear focus of where they can go to find the type of content they want. Content creators will know that if they post quality content in those areas there will be the potential of getting upvoted by sub-Steemit account and getting apportioned decent rewards. A fair crack at the whip.
ORGANIC NOT CONTRIVED
The process can be organic. New sub-Steemit accounts can be added. Less successful sub-Steemit's that fail to attract quality content can be inactivated. Sub-Steemit accounts needn't hold an equal amount of STEEM Power. Some accounts could hold more STEEM Power based on the popularity of the category.
Of course, people should be free to create their own tags and categories as they do now. Whales should be free to champion whichever category or poster they wish as they do now. People should still be free to browse through new, trending and hot content as they do now. However the sub-steemit accounts together with complimenting sub-Steemit categories will bring a bit of order to proceedings for those that need it.
PROXY CURATORS
I'd suggest Steemit consider nominating or hiring a group of individuals to curate with sub-Steemit accounts. People that have a passion for their category and an eye for good content.
Steemit should hire curators with the same diligence with which they'd hire developers. Curators should be hired to act as trusted 'proxy' tasked with promoting valued content on the platform..
These curators can also help with engaging people and reaffirming the values of the Sub-Steemit's community. There could even be different people proxy voting in different time-zones etc. Whatever is appropriate for the given Sub-Steemit.
CONCLUSION
I hope the Steemit team consider this proposal or doing something similar. These proposals may mean the highest trending posts of the day see their share of the rewards diluted, however that is a small sacrifice for a more colourful, diverse and interesting place to visit.
I love a good holiday. But I love more a great big party more, with a eclectic mix of good quality people and a DJ that knows how to organise a set.
Lets get this party started...
Just a thought...
2. Where’s Tai at?
So I was watching this video by the self-proclaimed “oracle of cryptocurrency” Tia Zen.
For those too impatient watch a 20 minute video, he is waxing lyrical about Steemit. In summary, he breaks down the things that distinguish Steemit from other Social Media platforms
- Censorship proof (he says Steemit platform is censorship proof, I’d say that STEEM blockchain is censorship proof, Steemit is just a view so can hide/ show what it pleases).
- Content creators can get paid without reliance on ads
- Curators get paid
- Any troll mechanism (via downvoting)
- Rewards original content
This seemed a cool angle to introduce people unfamiliar with Cryptocurrencies to Steemit. So I thought I’d seek him out and upvote this post. Could I find his video? No.
So where is Tai at?
If anyone comes across Tai, post his username in the comments so he can get him a Dolphin fin sized upvote!
3. Gets my vote – Creating Liberty Island: My Perspective on Steemit
Ain’t that a cool picture? Richard Kaplan aka @steemship is one of my favourite Steemit writers. He doesn’t post often but when he does I make sure to pull out my reading glasses, put up my feet and have a good read.
Here’s a fun fact, did you know that a small piece of London once declared independence from the UK in 1970? The place is aptly called ‘The Isle Of Dogs.’ Apparently one of the Kings used to let his dogs run loose on the land back in the days. Now, it’s known as The Docklands and home to Canary Wharf. In the 70s there were two bridges leading on and off “The Island” the Blue Bridge (which is still there today) and the Iron Bridge (which is long demolished). Both bridges were raised as the community unilaterally declared it's independence. Needless to say it didn't last long.
How do I come across this little tit-bit? I was born and raised on the Isle of Dogs. No, I wasn’t there in 1970, I’m not that old. However just image, if history had turned out differently I could be living in a tax free corner of London. The Isle of Dogs could have been option 7 on @steemship list! It would have been the best of both worlds (aside from the weather)… as it is, I need to contemplate the impact of Steemit on my tax returns.
Anyway, for giving me an excuse to indulge in a bit of nostalgia as well as entertaining me with a fact filled post, UPVOTED
4. Gets my vote – Steemit's first celeberty portrait, painted in steem colors
Another cool pic. That @seanmchughart took the time out to do a frigging portrait of @guerrint… that’s my kind of crazy, UPVOTED
5. Gets my vote – Strategic picks

https://steemit.com/steemstats/@jesta/steemstats-com-steem-account-monitoring-and-statistics, liked this tool, will probably use it. I’m rooting for the devs that are building STEEM related apps. An upvote is the least I can do.

7. Final word
Okay, I'm off to see the Wizard…. the wonderful Wizard of Oz.... Hope you enjoyed the new format. Please leave feedback below.
Interesting theory - i too upvoted on some that you point out deserve upvoting, as well as yours!
The travel ones are good to read and view pics as for some people it might be the only way they will ever get to see 'far flung places' and for others thinking of 'gap yearing, sabatical or just plain travelling' then its gives them an idea of where to go. I for one enjoy @heiditravels as she writes interesting content and her pics are usually superb.
I'm happy the travel category has taken off. Just feel there are other category that need (and deserve) shine too. The whole tagging/ categorisation on the site could be better organised too.
I agree, the tagging system could be better
Very good post!
Steem power you said? :)
I think Science would do pretty good as well.
I found Tai. He's here : @cryptomarket
I like your proposal. Also I'm also looking for tai. If you find him please let us know
Hi! Saw your chronicles, very interesting information. You are doing a good deed for all users steemit, thank you.
I've also noticed and have been harping on it is that the commenting ratio is too low on Steemit. I don't think people realize that there are many rewards to both the community and your wallet when you comment.
what are the rewards to your wallet? obviously bots posting comments hasn't helped the community (much).
I was having similar thoughts. Im not sure I completely agree with everything about your solution, there definately needs to be some kind of scaled voting mechanism. Splitting up some of the steemit power would be a great idea in the long run.
At the moment it's kind of 'all or nothing'.
what is dolphin currator?
Big STEEM Power holders are known colloquially as "Whales", the next rung down are known as "Dolphins".
I'm a Dolphin, that likes to curate and journal my experiences.
