Some pics from a recent dog-feeding run

in #dogs4 days ago

On the days when we don't have anything particular planned or scheduled I like to do a run around to the various areas that we are watching to make sure that the dogs are being fed well enough. I think part of the reason why I enjoy this so much is because much like children to an ice-cream truck, the dogs recognize my vehicle and will follow me to where I park. I've been doing this for a while and they have learned that my truck = food.

One particular location his this little lady, who was a big part of the reason why we stopped here in the first place. She needs to put some meat on her bones and recently had a litter of puppies. We are going to fatter her up a bit first, but then we will bring her in for sterilization. The owner of the land has said he is going to look after the puppies, but let's just say that I have heard this before and time will have to tell whether or not that ends up being the case. There are very few people that are truly prepared for one dog, let along 4 puppies all at the same time.

In the meantime they of course, are seriously cute and ready for any attention we show them. The food is just an added bonus.

In other areas we found plenty of other dogs that were excited about our arrival and we made sure to stop for all of them and offer up some food or snacks as well. It's kind of a trick on our part for many of them, we are secretly checking these dogs for illness, infection, or parasites while they are enjoying their snacks.

Plus, we also get a kick out of putting this little Santa harness on as many dogs as possible.

Some better than average snacks were available thanks to the local butcher that regularly saves unused bits of bone for us to hand out to the dogs.

Other than the group of pups, which I hope actually will be looked after as well as was promised, there were no surprises during my rounds that day. Every animal I came in contact with were ones I had seen before and all of them seemed to be in quite good health. This shows me that our organization is having some sort of impact because it wasn't like this 6 years ago.

I like to believe that this isn't a coincidence and it is actually precisely because of our involvement in the region that things have improved for the less-than-fortunate animals of Krabi province.
