It is all up for free, from my perspective. You just have to know how to find it. I agree that centralization can make data collection easier, but data collection does and will continue to exist within blockchains as well. I am assuming that is what you're getting at. The chain may be hosted decentralized, but the chain itself is still a centralization of data.
The bigger danger is people misunderstanding how quickly decentralized bits of innocuous data can become centralized, meaningful and weaponized.
