My Kid, Infinity War, and DLive

I'm dang proud of my kid.

I just want to get that out of the way first. I'll come back to that in a sec.

As many of you already know, DLive is taking their ball and going home.

Don't know about that yet? Read it from the llama's mouth here:
https://steemit.com/dlive/@wa7/dlive-is-joining-the-lino-blockchain-moving-away-from-steem

They are leaving Steem to go play with their friends from school. Which is weird, cuz they had already set up a lemonade stand. People were chillin', drinkin' lemonade, having a good time.

They received a bunch of support in building the lemonade stand. They got a bunch of money to re-invest back into a better stand and more ingredients to make more lemonade. They were essentially plugged into the community. It was a win-win for everyone.

And now, they're sayin' "Hey, guys. Thanks for all the fish. We're outta here!"

So let's get back to my kid.

Because of Steem Monsters, it has now become easier than EVER to create Steem accounts for my family. None of them have to go through the grueling 1 month waiting period that I did. It's freakin' awesome. Instant and convenient account creation.

I think we can all agree that Steem Monsters is paving the way for a massive influx of mass adoption that will funnel straight into the Steem ecosystem. I am absolutely blessed and honored to play a small role in such a grand project.

I'm getting side-tracked though. Back on point.

About a week ago, my youngest kid's account sprouted on the Steem blockchain (thanks to Steem Monsters). He was ecstatic. The first thing he did was participate in a Steem Monsters social media campaign. When he received an upvote from @aggroed and @steemmonsters on his first post, he was hooked. On his first day on the platform, he became a loyal and dedicated Steem supporter.

At 10 years old, he recognized the incredible community that Steem represented. Where else can he go and be recognized as a contributor almost immediately? Sure, part of the reason for that is a smaller, more tight-knit user base. It's easy to get lost in the background noise that is one of the larger social media networks. But I think a key factor is also that Steem users believe in the platform. They invest their time and money into it. And what's really interesting is that it's not fueled by greed.

Well, not entirely, haha.

The people here are sincerely and authentically trying to lift each other up. They're helping one another. Forging relationships based on a shared dream, rather than what they can financially get out of it.

It's an amazing experience that is unique within the blockchain industry.

And my kid felt that on the first day thanks to you good people.

Now about my kid. He spends a lot of time on YouTube. Like most kids, he dreams of being a YouTuber.

Yesterday, he wanted to make a video about Steem Monsters. I can't believe how tech-savvy kids are now! All I really did was help him download Zoom, so he could record a screen sharing session (does anyone else have a solution that works better? I have no idea how these things are normally done).

I left the room, so he wouldn't feel weird. He did the entire thing on his own. We figured out how to open iMovie on the computer. Neither one of us used it before. I know Premiere Pro. I know After Effects. But iMovie? Never touched it. No clue.

This kid not only figured out how to use the software, but he got fancy with the effects!

Then it came down to make a decision: DTube or DLive?

Heck, I dunno. We googled it to see if there was a clear advantage to using one over another. We read a couple things. We watched a review clip. Even after that, we saw no overwhelming reason why one was really much better than the other. Now, keep in mind...we didn't dig DEEP. We're talking minutes of research, so don't go nuts in the comments section about how we're total morons for not recognizing some uber feature that's exclusive to one of them.

So I looked at the boy, nodded knowingly like a wizened wizard, and confidently proclaimed, "I dunno".

I guess my son has grown accustomed to me not knowing anything because he didn't seem that fazed. On the contrary, he knew exactly which platform he wanted to use: DTube.

I suspect it's because it looked and felt so much like YouTube (and he loves YouTube), but I like to think it's because he has psychic powers that can be harnessed to buy lottery tickets. He KNEW that DLive was going to announce what will come to be known as the Big Betrayal.

Here's the thing: The average user doesn't see much difference between DTube and DLive. Which tells me that DLive must not have any game-changing technology that overshadows the competition. Meaning that when they pack up their lemonade stand, most neighbors aren't going to follow them on the bus to the rich kid's place. Instead, the members of the community are probably going to just walk across the street to the OTHER lemonade stand.

Why? Because this is not just a user base. It's a community that appreciates loyalty and fiercely protects its own. For many, that equates to "family".

Okay, back to talkin' about the kid. So he posts his very first DTube video. He yacks it up about Steem Monsters and how to open card packs and look at the market. Which, by the way, blew me AWAY! I had no idea he knew so much about the website and how to navigate it. Like, I think he's more comfortable with the interface than I am. And I helped design it. What the HECK.

Insanity.

Within 30 minutes, @dtube upvotes his video! Now, I don't know if that's normal. Maybe they upvote everyone's first video. If they do, that's such an awesome welcome to nervous new users who are putting themselves out there. And if they don't, then it's equally awesome that they took the time to give this young kid a big boost of self-confidence.

Holy cow.

He's flying high and can't wait for his payouts, so he can go buy more Steem Monsters cards, haha!

So part of me feels disgruntled (like most of you) about the DLive thing. But part of me feels bad for them. They're leaving behind the magic sauce. Don't they know you can't make Crabby Patties without the secret sauce?! Was this not brought up in the internal meetings? Was there no Secret Sauce memo????

Where the HECK are they gonna find a fan base community that is as insanely loyal and publicly committed as the army of Steem warriors that are even right now stabbing pins into make-shift DLive voodoo dolls? DLive has an uphill climb ahead of them.

Meanwhile DTube and @vimm will be dancing the happy dance.

So put down your drum and chicken blood for a sec. Go rejoice in the fact that DLive getting Thanos-snapped doesn't mean squat. It's like when Vision got whacked in the last Avengers movie. I didn't feel any emotion at all. Dumb android was useless the entire flick.

Save your tears for Peter Parker.

And go check out my kid's content at @koolitime .

Here's that DTube video he posted if anyone has kids his age. I encouraged him to find other Steem Kids who like the same stuff he does. It's an opportunity to make friends from places all over the world!
