MAKING HOMEMADE DOG TOYS - Trying to Entertain Baxter!

in #dlive6 years ago (edited)

Hey everyone!

This week, Garett made a really cool dog toy for Baxter! Check out this video of Baxter playing with his new bottle toy for the first time!

We are always trying to find new ways to entertain Baxter. I'm still recovering from having pneumonia, and I've haven't had energy to do much with the dog, so we have been trying to find some ways to keep him excited and entertained at the house. Garett loves to build things, and decided to try and make a toy our of some left over lumber and random items we had sitting at the house. The result was really cool, and I wanted to share it with all of you!

Here is how Garett made the toy:
Supplies-

  • One platform board in a rectangular or square shape
  • Two tall and thin pieces of wood (we used 2 inch pine boards)
  • One Piece of Paracord or Rope
  • One Plastic Bottle
  • Drill and Screws
  • Scissors

How to Build it-

  1. Clean out a plastic bottle. We used an olive oil bottle. Cut two holes into the bottle. The holes should be closer to the top of the bottle.
  2. Drill two holes into the the tall, thin pieces wood. This is where the paracord will go. They should be closer to the top of those pieces of wood.
  3. Use the drill to screw the two long thin pieces of wood into the rectangular/square shaped board. This will be the bottom platform board for the toy.
  4. Thread a piece of paracord or rope through the bottle, and then through the holes in the long, this pieces of wood. Tie the paracord/rope around the thin piece of wood to keep it in place.
  5. Fill the bottle with treats when you are ready for your dog to test it out! You can start with less treats while they figure out how it works. The most we have tried to put in it at once is a cup of food, and it really makes a challenge for Baxter!

Baxter LOVES the new toy. He thinks it is so much fun to play with, and you can see him get all excited when I start to put treats in the bottle. We even have started putting some of his meals in the new bottle toy because it he eats SO fast and this toy really slows him down.

Finding ways to mentally stimulate your dog doesn't have to be hard or expensive, we were able to make this with leftover things we had lying around the house. It really has been great for Baxter, and we hope it will be great for you and your dog too!

We hope you are having a great week!

Love Always,

@Kass-and-Bax
