What goes on before a newscast?

Hello everyone! How are you doing?

Have you ever wondered what happens before a newscast goes on air?

Well, a lot actually. There’s the setting up of the studio, the news gathering, writing, lining the stories, make- up, practice, and the actual broadcast. But let me show you a glimpse of what normally happens during a news break/ advisory (a short newscast lasting from 30 seconds to 2 minutes) from the perspective of the journalist who was tasked to read the news.

Plus: We are also featuring Abs-cbn anchor Karen Davila, who shared with us one interesting but important trivia about herself before she goes on air!

What do you think? Let me know on the comments section below.

Take care!

Now I suddenly miss working for the news. I was just an election researcher for 3 months. This is actually a calmer side of what goes on before and even during a newscast. I witnessed the hustle and bustle - how a lot of people would run here and there, shout or scream sometimes, and some even cry. I loved the adrenaline rush that it brings, just watching from the sides and keeping away from the aisles or you'll get hit by the rush of people, be the cause of delay of the news and get reprimanded or fired. Hahaha! Ahhh... those were the days! Thank you for sharing!

Oh you used to work for the news? That’s awesome! So true, the adrenaline rush is something else: it can get you high but it can also burn you down if done consistently over a long period of time. ☺️ Sometimes a bit of chillaxing should be in order too.
Im very happy you liked the video :) thank you!

Do presenters have inner conflicts, if you find yourself reporting things that you know to be untrue, but have to follow the broadcast companies 'line'...? or has this never happened ?

A question I have often wondered about.

Hi lucylin :) as far as I am concerned I haven’t had that experince yet.. but it reminds me of those times when US broadcast companies followed and reported heavily about paris hilton. Some news presenters got so tired of it that they refused to read the news about Hilton. One even shredded the script 😁 so I guess that happens.

Thanks.
...Good to know integrity still exists in the media! lol

It should!!😂 Otherwise we wont have jobs anymore 🤗

It should, but it generally doesn't, from what I see( unfortunately).

....I think it's a dying industry, to be honest...so last century!
😂 ... Pesky internet...

This is really cool and you have done a great job dear.

Thank you so much @melianasagita 🤗❤️

Looks like it takes way more effort and time than we think by just watching the news but, that it can also be fun specially with the soundtrack you used. lol Also it's the first time I actually hear spoken Filipino and I think it rolls so nicely off the tongue :) Cheers for the insight.

Hey thanks @ange.nkuru! Yeah I agree...it takes a whole battalion to produce the news but it can be fun too!

that was a really amazing video! The importance of this video i think is that we can see the people behind the scenes who work there as well as that the people we regularly see in front of the screen in the news that mostly have a serious look ( cause that's job) they are in fact regular everyday people like the rest of us!

Also i had no clue about the one eye lense contact :p

Hahaha neither do I! So imagine my shock about one eye contact lense! 🤪😂❤️

Hi @jasmineromero
Wow! It makes me appreciate more of your work by watching behind the scenes. It takes a lot of work in bringing the news to the public.

I'm sure that the news cast is the easiest part of your job! There must be so much going on before and after, that the newscast is like the tip of an iceberg!

oh, you have no idea how nerve wracking it was for me! notice how much i practiced, how i kept on exercising my jaw, and how i let out a big fast exhale seconds before i went on air? that was ALL Nerves! hahaha funny, i am a public speaker all my life and i always feel nervous almost every single time i go on air. but it fades away eventually as i get more confident and more focused.

i remember when i was doing evening news for another network, a colleague of mine made my head boil. she was a news writer and never had an experience doing newscast. she kept on saying "your job is so easy, you just read the news.

huh? easy?

well, she got a taste of the "easy" job and auditioned for another news program. she groomed herself, applied make up, fixed her hair and went to the anchor's chair to "read" the news. guess what? she never auditioned again. you know why? she realized newscasting is "not as easy" as she thought it was.
