Legit-Looking iPhone Lightning Cables That Hack You Will Be Mass Produced and Sold

We learnt the fact that unknown USB keys and similar devices should not be plugged into computers, because by the way, we could get something unexpected like spyware, virus, etc...

In reality, this applies to all active USB devices. And the danger is not just limited to USB, but any two-way data connection. An example is the false cables for Apple's lightning connector.

We first heard about them in August, but now their mass production is underway. According to the author of MG, who named the cables O.MG, it is a modification that retains all the normal functionality of the cables (data transfer and charging), but also establishes a hotspot. This allows nearby hackers to connect to the device and gain full access.

Very interesting article, thanks for bringing this to my attention. I'll resteem it.

That is fucking creepy, is there a way to know if they’re spyware?

Yes it is, agree. Unfortunately there's no way to know except: Use only your original cables :(
