Paul M Sutter, Astrophysicist, explores the growing preference of graduate students who have cut their teeth in Big Data within the astronomy and physics communities, to opt for the industry rather than ending up in science as an independent researcher.

It used to be that the graduate schools trained new scientist in excess of the demand in the academia. Now the table have turned. Graduate students are finding the industry more challenging, fulfilling and lucrative.

Would this trend continue? Are there solutions? Paul doesn't answer these questions and leaves the readers to figure it out themselves.
