Russia reiterates rejection of the US blockade against Venezuela

The spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, María Zajárova, denounced on Thursday the unilateral coercive measures of the United States against Venezuela and its impact on the population of that country.
Speaking to the press, Zajárova said Washington's "suffocating" sanctions increasingly affect "the interests of ordinary Venezuelans," Prensa Latina cites.
He also stressed that it is "impossible not to recognize that they were the most affected (the population), although the initial objective was different."
The spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry also said that her country rejects Washington's threats of sanctions for its cooperation with Venezuela.
"We would like to ask once again the official representatives of the US Administration, do not try to scare us with new sanctions as a form of punishment for Russian economic operators for cooperation with Venezuela," Zajárova said.

He described as "illegitimate" the restrictions that Washington threatens, while considering them an "instrument of unfair competition" to "get unilateral advantages."
On September 10, the White House envoy for Venezuela, Elliott Abrams, threatened sanctions against Russian state oil company Rosneft for working with Caracas.
Rosneft rejected the accusations and warned that all operations to purchase Venezuelan oil from the company, as well as gasoline supplies to Venezuela "are carried out under prepaid contracts, concluded before the imposition of sanctions"
