This may look like an ordinary card, but wait until you see what's inside.

Ever since I was young, I have always been fascinated by making DIY's to my loved ones especially when there is a special occasion. I create cards that are personalized and give it to them as a gift. Each piece that I make has a unique touch and exceptional. Every time I hand in what I made for them, I feel happy with their reactions and amazement of how I crafted it.

Yesterday, ate @ediah sent me a link to this greeting card making contest by @mermaidvampire and I got enticed to participate. Luckily, I was really thinking of making a card for my sister-at-heart and best friend for her birthday this coming Sunday, March 25. For her last birthday, I have made her an exploding box that took me 3 weeks to almost a month to finish it.

This was the exploding box I made for her birthday last year.

So for this year, I made something new for her.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

Construction Papers (Assorted colors)
Scissors
Cutter
Jute Strings
Washi Tapes
Brush Markers
Signo BallPen (White)
Colored Fine Pens
Ballpen/Sign Pen 0.3
Ruler
Pencil
Glue
Decorative Cutters

Below is the process how I made DIY Pop-up cards in a Pop-up Card.

MAKING THE CARD

IMG_20180320_204112.jpg
(1) you need 4 8x8 construction papers.

IMG_20180320_204420.jpg
(3) Cut one side reaching the center and fold the upper left box diagonally.

IMG_20180320_204253.jpg
(2) Fold each paper into four equal sides.

IMG_20180320_205205.jpg
(5) Fold the flap on the right side inward.

IMG_20180320_205118.jpg
(4) Fold the diagonal line making an "L" shape.

IMG_20180320_205757.jpg
(7) Do this to the other 3 papers and it will look like these. Arrange all the cards according to your preference and color combination before sticking it up with each other.

IMG_20180320_205339.jpg
(6) Glue the topside of the right flap and fold down the top flap.

IMG_20180320_205940.jpg
(8) Make sure to check the correct sides of each card before putting it all together.

IMG_20180320_210915.jpg
(9) On the front page, I covered it with green paper because my best friend's obsessed with this color.

IMG_20180320_211214.jpg
(10) I then punched a hole at the center edge of the front page.

IMG_20180320_211237.jpg
(11) and on the back page.

IMG_20180320_211408.jpg
(12) I took my jute twine. Measured it according to how long I need it to close and hold the card and inserted it in the whole.

IMG_20180320_211811.jpg
(13) I decorated the twine with the washi tapes I have and make it look like a festival banner.

IMG_20180320_220635.jpg
(14) For the front page, I cut out letters on a bright-colored paper and shadowed it with a dark colored paper to let it pop out.

IMG_20180322_000812.jpg
(15) I glued it to the front page and wrote my best friend's name below it with the use of brush pens and decorated it with the white pen. I put in ABC's because I placed an alphabetically arranged qualities she has inside the card.

MAKING THE POP-UPS

IMG_20180320_224829.jpg
(16) I wrote the "32 qualities Joyce have" in a separate construction paper because she'll be turning 32 this coming Sunday. I cut it out and pasted it into the first card. I also placed a pop-out corner.

IMG_20180320_225725.jpg
(17) I used my decorative cutters, the flower, and the leaf, on the appropriate colors for the flowers and leaves to be decorated on that popping out corner.

IMG_20180320_234841.jpg
(18) I wrote the good qualities of Joyce and cut it into smaller pieces just enough to fit on the flowers.

IMG_20180320_235608.jpg
(19) This is how the first pop-up card looks like.

IMG_20180321_000754.jpg
(20) For the second card, I put in another pop-out. I cut the paper into four strips.

IMG_20180321_001052.jpg
(21) I cut out green strips to be the balloon's sticks.

IMG_20180321_215140.jpg
(22) I made balloon cut outs in different colors and used a white pen to highlight it.

IMG_20180321_215640.jpg
(23) Glued the qualities onto the balloons.

IMG_20180321_220145.jpg
(24) I arranged the balloons and made a weaving pattern with the green strips. This is how the second card looks like.

IMG_20180321_221105.jpg
(25) For the third card, I used a popping out spiral heart. I drew an outline of a heart and cut out the lines. I made two of these.

IMG_20180321_234155.jpg
(26) I stick the largest parts of the heart and glued it to the card. I also stick the little hearts connecting each other and decorated the remaining qualities I wrote around it.

IMG_20180321_224450.jpg
(27) For the last and fourth card, I decided to make a popping-out birthday greeting. I made an outline on a piece of paper.

IMG_20180321_231723.jpg
(28) Then I used a cutter to highlight the birthday greeting.

IMG_20180321_234221.jpg
(29) I then put a pink background to make the message readable when it pops out. This is then the fourth pop-up card.

After seeing all that I have done, I got satisfied with it since I put in a lot of effort. I'll be adding maybe a personal letter and I choose not to post it since I want it to be private. While I was making these, I'm inspired to finish it because I want my best friend to be surprised on her birthday and so far, I have nothing to give her, only this. I spent hours just to finish this one and yes, making DIY's are tiring but I enjoy doing it at the same time.
