DIY indoor hanging plants
Hey friends,
I wanted to share this affordable, adorable way to bring plant life indoors. My dilemma was that the window in my room didn't have enough of a ledge to rest any vases on. So using this project as an excuse to go on a hike, I ventured out with my dogs and some friends in search of an extra large hiking stick.
After hiking over a mile and a half into Ice Box Canyon, NV, I found the perfect stick for this project (though I must admit that hiking out with a 7ft+ hiking stick was a little difficult).
I then went to a local hardware store where I gathered:
- plants (succulents, aloe vera, air plants..)
- potting soil
- pots and glass vases
- jute twine
- paint
(The whole project was completed for around $30 including the price of the plants. )
I started the project by securing the hiking stick to the curtain rod holder above my window using the jute twine. Then I began the crafty part and started painting the three standard pots all various colors and patterns. Once dry, I wrapped and tied the twine around the pots. Each method I used to wrap and braid the twine was different from the last. I then planted the various vegetation into each one. Remember to place rocks or some sort of barrier in the bottom of the vases to allow the plants proper drainage.
Next, I braided and tied the twine to the two glass vases that were holding the air plants.
Lastly, I hung all of the plants and vases from the hiking stick, hanging them all from various heights.
This simple project brought so much life and color into my once plantless room! All of the plants I have require a good amount of sunlight and having a South West facing window provides them the perfect amount. I recommend if you are going to give it a try that you observe how much direct sunlight the window you will be using receives as to know which plants will grow the best. I hope this project can help spice up a room in your house as well!
Don't forget to for more adventures!

That's an awesome way to avoid drilling holes in the ceiling and mounting plants from hooks. Great idea!
This is a very creative and unique idea. I love the glass vases you're using for your air plants.
Great job Bailey! Very nice!
