If you hate the government so much, why don’t you move to Somalia?

Might not be a bad idea

The fourth largest port company in the world made a deal with the government of Somaliland. DP World will build an economic free zone in the new Republic.

  • A total of 12.2 square kilometres of land has been earmarked for the Berbera Free Zone (BFZ), which is to be modelled on Dubai’s Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza), the Middle East region’s biggest free zone.
    .
The Dubai-based ports operator signed a 30-year concession agreement to manage the Port of Berbera in May 2016. In September 2017, the port recorded a 40 per cent year-on-year increase in container volumes – the highest total volumes in the port’s history, DP World said in a statement.
    .
The new economic zone aims to position Berbera as a gateway port for east Africa, by encouraging investments and trade in the warehousing, logistics, manufacturing and related businesses.

hmmm...where have I heard of this free trade zone thing before?

Oh yeah..Hong Kong, Singapore, Mauritius:, and Dubai...it seems that the one thing they all have in common is that they are RICH.

you'd thing this 'free market' thing would catch on?

Sort:

Interestingly enough the free market is painted as a lawless warzone when in reality it's where the most wealth and prosperity is created. Yet, the trendies keep screaming for communism. Good Lord.

the trendies are stupid.

There is a free trade zone at the eastern end of the Panama Canal, near Colon.
And in Mexico from the border to the checkpoint about 20km in. Near Algodones you can buy name brand whiskey for a real cheap price, but bringing it back in California you can only bring one bottle every 30 days. This California rule could cramp your style.

I can't tell the difference between rot-gut and the GOOD stuff.
and I have no expectation of EVER going to california again.

Apparently the region has become stable enough to preclude piracy. I yet associate Somalia with violent warlords and human life being valued only by the difficulty taking it would pose.

Not even sure I'd wanna visit, TBH.

Great point on the free trade zone though. This would be a perfect time to set up shop there, in order to grow with the trade.

Wanna bet the fishing is great!

I dunno...it might be.
or...it might be all fished out.
there have been people fishing in that area since time began.

your full discussion now leading totally..you nicely done your discussion...@everittfmickey

Curious fact: Something that Hong Kong, Singapore, Mauritius, Dubai and Somaliland have in common, were all British colonies.

the sun never set on the British empire....right?
white man's burden.
Eeeeeevil white guys..
.run the nasty colonialists OFF.
and get rich.

right?

People still think the British empire doesn't control the US. - honestly, they really do!

oh yeah...I'm sure they do.
yup...right.

Hey, it worked for Robert Mugabe... just not for Zimbabwe.

haha, I do not know, but I'll leave this here for you if you want to take a look ...

Although I do not always agree with PragerU, this video has several correct points.

While there are kernels of truth in the video, and I appreciate the link, I suspect I am quite a bit more cynical than PragerU.

I remember something called the 'Opium Wars'...

The opium wars are best forgot..they don't match the narrative.

As long as you play by their rules, you can be rich. So glad we are are not stuck in the TPP slave contract.

were they rich while the British were still in control?
