Ketchup as medicine
Today come to write about another curious event, or that seems curious to me.
In the mid-1830s, Ketchup pills existed and were marketed, which were believed to cure all kinds of diseases!... The idea came from the American doctor John Cooke Benette, who added tomato paste to the original Ketchup mix, and later he turned it into pills to treat stomach problems and indigestion.

At first, this drug was marketed and people seemed to accept it, however, thanks to the ease of copying and falsifying the formula, the pharmaceutical empire of Ketchup collapsed in 1850.
It was not until the arrival of Henry John Heinz in 1876, when food flavoring mix became popular. Sauce that is still very popular as a dressing in food, but not to make pills.
