Wow Amazing.... The Expert Discovered A New Species of Orangutan, It Is Called Orangutan Tapanuli

In early November 2017, researchers announced that they had discovered a new species of orangutan in North Sumatra. The orangutan was found in Tapanuli, North Sumatra. Therefore the animal is called Orangutan Tapanuli.

The scientific name of this orangutan is Pongo tapanuliensis.This discovery becomes a meaningful discovery, the article of the discovery of this new species fall into the category 3 discovery of new species of ape group in the last century after the scientists found the orangutan Pongo pygmaeus (orangutan kalimantan) and Pongo abelii (Sumatran orangutan ).

Unfortunately, their habitat in the Batang Toru hills is now threatened by industrial and agricultural development.

Professor of bioanthropology at Australia National University who is also one of the researchers, Anton Cahyono, said this discovery begins by researching Sumatran orangutan population in isolated habitat namely Batang Toru Ecosystem, Tapanuli. Research was then continued to investigate ecology, genetics and populations.

Researchers also concluded the population of Orangutan Tapanuli only about 800 tails, plus the female reproduction is very little so that the animal is threatened with extinction.

In this study also found physical differences between the Orangutan Tapanuli with two other species of them; the fur is thicker and frizzy, the skulls and jawbone of the Orangutan Tapanuli are smoother, the male Orangutan Tapanuli has a mustache and a protruding beard with flat-cheek pads filled with fine blond hair.
