God is faithful: I will discipline you in just measure, and I will by no means leave you unpunished. Jeremiah 46:28

The prophet Jeremiah was a prophet who lived during the final years of the Kingdom of Judah, and unlike his predecessor Isaiah, Jeremiah was unable to save the Kingdom of Judah from foreign invasion, but rather suffered hostility and persecution for his words, the hardness of hearts in the ruling class prevented the action of the common sense.
Like all the prophets, Jeremiah taught the importance of the spiritual gifts of mercy (kindness, gentleness, compassion) and the fear of God (constancy, firmness, devotion, and equanimity) over masks, forms, and appearances, and with these words the prophet expressed this truth: "Give justice each morning to the people you judge! Help those who have been robbed; rescue them from their oppressors" Jeremiah 21:12. And this is so because there is inevitably a cosmic law of sowing and harvesting: "Otherwise, my anger will burn like an unquenchable fire because of all your sins" Jeremiah 21:12.
Jeremiah had prophesied that Nebuchadnezzar and his entire empire, as an instrument of God, would destroy everything from Egypt to Syria, and so he delivered oracles not only against Judah but also against the Philistines who would disappear with this invasion. But Jeremiah also taught in his oracles that God is faithful and thus prophesied that the Israelites who survived the invasion and exile would return to their land with a renewed heart toward God, the Babylonian Empire would eventually disappear as a result of its own mistakes, and the Israelites, after several generations and genuine repentance, would recover what they had lost, and with these words Jeremiah prophesied the justice of God: "I will make a full end of all the nations to which I have driven you, but of you I will not make a full end. I will discipline you in just measure, and I will by no means leave you unpunished" Jeremiah 46:28.
The events that occurred in Jeremiah's time are a reminder that human cunning cannot change God's plans and that only the wisdom of the creator can lead man to his true happiness.
