Just some thoughts from your reply. Does obedience increase our faith? Does fellowship increase our faith? Does seeing a miracle of a transformed life increase our faith? Does eating meat instead of drinking milk to sustain you while you help others be what Jesus called them to be (Heb 5:11-14) increase your faith? Those are things that I am thinking lie behind Jesus' strategy for dealing with doubts among his disciples.
I don't think that discipleship increases faith. Jesus told us to make disciples. Some people will believe. Most will not.
